2025 Ukraine Reporting Grant

Ends on

Women on the Ground: Reporting from Ukraine’s Unseen Frontlines is designed to increase and deepen coverage of critical issues surrounding the war. This program supports journalists from local and regional outlets in the U.S., France and Germany in producing in-depth projects or underreported stories from Ukraine that will resonate with their respective home communities

To augment the reporting produced during the reporting trips, the IWMF will approve fifteen to twenty reporting grants (average size of $8,000). We encourage international journalists to team up with their Ukrainian counterparts to co-report stories, thereby funding reporting by local reporters with the deepest knowledge of their own country.

Please note: stories cannot be published behind paywalls. Story pitches should explore underreported issues in Ukraine, with a focus on communities impacted by the war that are important to their local communities in the United States, France or Germany.

Applications will be pre-screened for eligibility using the following criteria:

• This opportunity is open to women and nonbinary journalists.

• Applicants may be freelance or staff journalists and may apply individually or as part of a team.

• Each grantee needs to publish at least one story in a local or regional media outlet. A team of two will need to publish at least two stories.

• Applicant must be able to show proof of interest from an editor.

Applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis. The deadline is Monday, July 14, 2025 at 11:59 pm eastern time.

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
