The IWMF is seeking a skilled, creative, and highly organized part-time Communications Coordinator to help implement the organization’s digital communications. This is an execution-focused role for someone who can write and edit with precision, manage digital platforms, support visual content development, and respond thoughtfully within a fast-paced news environment.

Who We Are

The International Women’s Media Foundation is the only global nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women journalists. Through emergency assistance, safety training, reporting opportunities, and recognition, the IWMF works to expand opportunity, strengthen press freedom, and ensure a greater diversity of voices in journalism.

What You’ll Do

Working closely with the Communications Department and colleagues across the Development and Programs Departments, the Communications Coordinator will:

  • Create, coordinate, and publish digital content across the IWMF’s channels, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Facebook, Threads, YouTube, TikTok, X, and Substack.
  • Help generate content ideas; source and create original assets; and draft, edit, schedule, and publish platform-specific social copy.
  • Compile, coordinate, produce, and distribute newsletters and other email marketing communications.
  • Provide graphic design support for social media, email, marketing, events, and other organizational needs.
  • Track and report on digital, social, and email performance, highlighting meaningful trends, inflection points, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor online conversations about the IWMF and developments across journalism, press freedom, gender equity, and the evolving digital media landscape.
  • Identify timely opportunities for the IWMF to join relevant public conversations and strengthen its visibility and share of voice.
  • Maintain audience engagement and the IWMF’s organizational presence through responsive, thoughtful community management.
  • Maintain, edit, and update content on the IWMF’s WordPress website.
  • Support the development, distribution, and organization of communications collateral and other short-form materials.
  • Contribute to cross-functional communications needs and other related projects as assigned.

Who You Are

We care more about demonstrated ability than a particular educational path or exact number of years in the field.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience managing externally facing digital communications, whether through professional, freelance, academic, volunteer, or independent work.
  • Experience managing social media accounts, including publishing, community engagement, monitoring, and analytics.
  • Excellent writing, copy-editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to adopt an organization’s voice, tone, and cadence across digital platforms and audiences.
  • The ability to communicate an organization’s mission, values, and impact to audiences, including journalists, community members, partners, stakeholders, and donors.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and newsletter production and distribution.
  • Strong visual judgment and hands-on graphic design skills for digital, social, and marketing content.
  • Sound judgment, accuracy, and composure when handling urgent requests, changing priorities, and sensitive or fast-moving news.
  • Excellent organization and task management, with the ability to work independently, prioritize competing needs, meet deadlines, and solve problems proactively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating across functions such as communications, programs, and fundraising.
  • Curiosity about emerging platforms, digital storytelling practices, audience behavior, and new tools for content creation, organization, and monitoring.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Buffer, and Canva.

Preferences:

  • Experience in communications, marketing, journalism, media, advocacy, or a related field.
  • Experience with narrative storytelling designed for digital audiences.
  • Knowledge of the creator and influencer ecosystem.
  • A meaningful commitment to nonprofit or mission-driven work, and to the role of women and gender-diverse journalists and independent journalism in a flourishing democracy.
  • Experience in a nonprofit organization, newsroom, advocacy organization, foundation, public-interest campaign, or other progressive or mission-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Asana, Slack, WordPress, and common social and email analytics tools.
